15 boys and girls from Years 3 and 4 braved the cold and muddy conditions as they took part in a Football Tournament at Whitefoot Lane Playing Fields on Tuesday 3rd March. They played a series of games against Holy Cross, Downderry and Our Lady and St. Phillip Neri Primary Schools. The Girls’ Team worked hard as they were up against a very strong Downderry team, with Lucy and Poppy from Year 3 scoring 1 goal each during the second half of the match. However, Downderry came back stronger and won 7-2 overall. Next up were the Boys’ Team, who played a fierce game, winning 4-0 against Holy Cross, 8-1 against Our Lady and St. Phillip Neri and then drawing 2-2 with Downderry taking them to the lead as joint winners in First Place with Downderry Primary School. They took home the winning medals after playing extremely well, demonstrating excellent teamwork and fancy footwork. They showed great sportsmanship, without showing off or getting into any arguments with each other or the opposing team. The St. Augustine’s Teams left both staff and parents impressed with their outstanding performance and behaviour. Well done to Years 3 and 4!
Keep up the great work!

Year 3 visit to The Horniman Museum
We had a good look around the Museum and particularly enjoyed the section when we got to stroke models of a fox and badger. Then it was time for our prehistoric workshop. We were able to show our guide Emily, all that we already knew about the Stone Age. Emily let us handle some artefacts from the Stone Age. We had to treat them very carefully as they were so old. Our favourite was a tooth from a wooly mammoth – it was huge!
On Tuesday 29th October, Year 3 visited the Horniman Museum. We took a train from Beckenham Hill to Catford and then got the 185 bus straight there. Many of us were asking when lunchtime was before we even arrived!
The Stone Age
This term in humanities year 3 has been learning all about the Stone Age. We first looked at how long ago the Stone Age was by creating a human timeline with toilet paper. All the children were shocked to see how long ago the Stone Age first started. We have also looked closely at how Stone Age people hunted and gathered food when shops didn’t exist. After researching the different tools pupils were given the chance to design their own tool and make it out of clay. Our next step is to add sticks and rope to complete their Stone Age tool. I know the children will be so excited to show them to you when they are complete and tell you what their tool is design for.
