Dinosaurs in Ice

The dinosaurs got left out on Monday night in water and when we came to Nursery on Tuesday they had frozen. We needed to free them! The children worked together to come up with a plan. The used spoons and spatulas to crack the ice.

The children spent the rest of the morning playing with the ice and finding it in lots of different places. We found one piece of ice with a leaf inside it, it looked really interesting. The children got some hammers from inside and enjoyed smashing it into tiny pieces. They also made different marks in the ice. What a very busy and frosty morning!

Basketball tournament

Some year 6 children took part in a basketball tourmnament at Bonus Pastor on the 30 November. Well done to the team that took part, they came third and showed amazing sportsamnship. The children won, lost and drew a match. During every match they showed teamwork and used differnt types of passes.

Year 1 visit the church

The children went to the church to re-enact a baptism at the end of our sacraments topic, the whole class enjoyed using the actual baptismal font and those of them who had been to a baptism shared their experiences with the other children.

Sally Bear’s Baptism

The Nursery were invited to join Sally on her special Baptism day. Sally wore white clothing and she was given her name. We lit the candle and said a prayer. Water was poured over Sally’s head and she was welcomed into God’s family.

The children then looked at their own Baptism photos and we could see lots of similarities.

Fred Bear’s Birthday

In the Nursery the children have been busy preparing for, and celebrating Fred Bear’s Birthday. We read lots of books about birthdays and decided that we would like to have a party  for Fred. The children decided we needed to make cards and give him presents. So they got busy making and writing cards. We then went on the search for some presents he would like; cars and dinosaurs are his favourite. The children wrapped them very carefully, making sure they had enough paper to cover it and using sellotape to secure them. The children came up with the idea that Fred would need to know who the presents were from, so we found some sticky labels and they got busy writing their names. The children also wanted to make cakes to eat at his party and hats to wear. We sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him, danced and played games. What a great birthday it was!

Virtual Greek Reality at the British Museum

Year 4 have enjoyed a very busy and exciting term so far, including a trip to the British Museum. They were able to access the Samsung Digital Discovery Centre with hands-on, interactive activities. The children designed their own virtual Greek Temples and cast their votes on the best materials to be used via tablets. They were also given a budget to use when selecting the materials for their temples on e-boards. They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in an interactive quiz about all things ‘Greek’. Back at school, the children have been exploring Ancient Greek patterns on vases and were able to write their names using the Ancient Greek alphabet. Well done Year 4!

Horton Kirby

This term, year 3 visited Horton Kirby for a fun exploration of the Stone Age. They tried their hands at cave painting, hunting using stone age weapons, and even lit fires using flint. While many said they enjoyed the archaeological dig best, dressing up in costumes from a range of historical periods was another firm favourite. This was a great hands-on way to learn about the Stone Age.

Christingle 2017

Year 3 were delighted to organise this year’s Christingle service. They had carefully made their own Christingle oranges and learned about the symbolism of each part. It was a prayerful and joyful start to their first Advent in Juniors!
