Lewisham Live

Year 4 took part in Lewisham Live. This is an event where schools from Lewisham perform at Catford Broadway Theatre in a dance performance. The children performed a folk dance with a modern twist. They did so well and came back excited to share how it went with everyone.

Bikeability

Years 3 and 4 had the exciting opportunity to take part in Bikeability training at level 1. Level 1 is about showing confidence and control when riding your bike, being aware of space  and how to best use space when you are in small groups or large groups. Well done to all the children who took part.

Spring Water Fun

Now the nice weather has arrived we have been able to have lots of water-based activities outside.

The children have loved exploring the coloured water and watching what happens when two colours are mixed together. They added fruit teabags to the water and watched as it turned red. They have poured, stirred, mixed, squeezed and pinched. They have used lots of one handed tools and had to be very careful when moving full teapots and goblets of water. They have had to share and wait their turn. They have pretended that the water is something else: potions, tea, soup, medicine. Lots of language is being used and most importantly they have had lots of fun!

We found a snail!

This week the Nursery children found a snail. They decided to make a home for it so they cut some leaves and grass using scissors, and put in some old apple cores. Mrs Power found a book about a snail called ‘The Snail Trail’ by Ruth Brown. It is about the journey of a snail. The children watched the snail they had found very closely and used lots of prepositional language to describe the journey. The snail kept escaping from it’s home and even made its way onto the side of a drum! At the end of the session the children put the snail very carefully back into its habitat.

Making Play Dough

The Nursery children made their own play dough. They had to mix flour, salt and water together. They had to make sure they didn’t use too much water. The children used pipettes and turkey basters to suck up the water. It was tricky but they persevered.  It did get a bit messy but they had great fun!

Ice sculptures

The children in year 1 as part of their art topic learned about ice sculptures. We wrote instructions in English for how to make a sculpture and talked about the material of ice in science. We think the sculptures look amazing, its a shame they had to melt!

Mission X after school club

Congratulations to the year 3, 4 and 5 children who have completed level 1. You have now completed level 2 by learning about what happens to the astronauts bones in space, researching our galaxy, completing an agility course and completing some exercises that astronauts do as part of their training.

Book Day 2018

This year our book topic for Book Day was Little Red Riding Hood and we had three little Red Riding Hoods.  The children had fun learning the story and making their own story maps.  We also learnt a song about the colour red.

In the afternoon we had a book quiz based on our favourite books in Reception.  The children wrote their answers on their whiteboards.  Their first ever quiz!  Everybody did very well.  Here are a few pictures of our day.
