Preparing for Fred Bear’s Birthday

The Nursery have been preparing for Fred Bear’s birthday. They have made cards; drawing pictures and writing a message inside. They have wrapped presents; making sure they had enough paper to cover the present and sellotaping the paper so that the present didn’t fall out. They remembered to write their names on sticky labels so that Fred knows who the present is from. They also made hats to wear at his party.

They are looking forward to decorating the cakes and celebrating on Friday!

Autumn’s Here

We have been watching things change around us. The weather has been getting colder, the leaves have been falling from the trees and there are lots of pumpkins in the shops. We read ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and decided to make some pumpkin soup ourselves. It was delicious! We discovered there were lots of seeds inside and we had to get them all out. They were very slippery. The children also drew the pumpkins, making lines and circles, with charcoal. They did a fabulous job.

Remembrance Day at Downham

On Friday 10th November, Year 5 went to visit the memorial at Downham for Remembrance Day.  There were four other schools there.  The service was short but enjoyable.  There was a lot of professional music [well, it was Year 7+, but it sounded professional ~Mr M].  At the end, two people from each school laid a poppy wreath on the statue.  Mr Headley-Morris took a class photo of us by the memorial.  There was even a real soldier at the service.  Finally, we went back to school.

Pattern in Year 1

This week in year 1 the children are making patterns using cubes. They started by using 2 colours then 3 colours. We then challenged the class to create their own patterns with cubes. They all accepted the challenge and told their friend about their pattern.

Athletics

On Thursday 9th November, a group of year 5 and 6 children went to Bonus Pastor to take part in an Athletics competition. They took part in field and relay races.
The field events the children took part in were speed bounce, standing long jump, javelin and chest push.
The relays we took part in were a 2 by 1 lap relay, a 4 by 1 lap relay, a 2 by 2 lap relay, a 4 by 2 lap relay for boys and girls teams and a 4 by 1 lap mixed relay.

The children won the competition, we are very proud of them. Thank you to the parents who came to support us.

An Autumn Walk in the Park

The Reception children had a marvellous time at Beckenham Place Park on Tuesday afternoon.  It was a bit drizzly, but nothing could dampen their spirits.  Lots of parents came along to help out.  The children collected leaves and sticks.  We walked through the woods and up to the big mansion house.  The children have used the leaves and sticks they collected to make a nice display in the classroom.  Thank you mums and dads for coming to join us.

Reception Class Diwali Celebrations 2017

Just before we broke up for half term, the Reception children had a marvellous time celebrating Diwali.  They very much enjoyed learning about Prince Rama and Princess Sita and the battle against Ravanna, the ten headed king.  The children celebrated by dancing to Indian music, creating rangoli patterns, making clay diva lamps and making delicious coconut sweets.  We ended our celebrations with some quiet time.  Some children had bhindis painted on their foreheads.  Take a look at our photos.
