On Monday 17th July years 4,5 and 6 were lucky enough to be able to go the World Para Athletic Championships. The children saw track and field events for 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres and 800 metres. The track events the children saw were long jump, shot put and discus.

While there the children saw Sophie Kamlish beat her own world record in the 100 metre sprint for Great Britain. She ran 100 metres in 12.90 seconds wow! The atmosphere in the London Stadium was amazing and the children cheered on all the athletes but especially team GB.

Everyone had a wonderful day!

Visits to the big school

As part of the children’s transition into Reception class, we have been making regular visits to the main school.

The children had the opportunity to meet the cook and kitchen staff and try out collecting their knives and forks, and balancing their trays.  They took their ‘pretend’ lunches to the special lunchtime tables and chairs. They can’t wait to try the dinners!

The children have also made visits to the Reception classroom where they have met their new teacher and had the opportunity to try out some new activities. Once a week, the children join in with morning playtime in the main school playground and some of them enjoy playing with their older siblings.  On Wednesday, the children took part in the Hands Liturgy.  They sat well throughout the Liturgy and happily joined in with the songs.

Teddy Bears Picnic

If you went down to Beckenham Place Park last Friday 7th July, you were in for a big surprise.  The Nursery children, their parents and lots of teddies had come together for a special picnic to celebrate the end of the school year.  It was a very hot morning and the children were delighted to cool off in the water fountains at the park.  They also played on the swings, climbing frames and roundabouts.  It was great fun for everybody and we all cooled off with an ice lolly.  Thank you parents, grandparents and carers for coming along to join us.

Searching for Minibeasts in Horton Kirby

The children had a marvellous time when they visited Horton Kirby to search for minibeasts.  It was very exciting getting on the coach with our packed lunches.  When the children arrived they were told all about the minibeasts, where they were likely to find them and how they could collect them safely and then release them.  It was wonderful to learn so much about their habitats and habits.  The children then enjoyed visiting the “smelly garden” which was full of wonderful herbs and lavender.  Afterwards, the children enjoyed playing the bee game in the flower garden, where they went from flower to flower collecting nectar.  It was great fun and the children were tired when they got back on the coach for our return journey back to school.

Maths in year 1.

Year 1 have been learning about capacity. The children have been using education city games to help learn the vocabulary empty, full and half full. The class completed an activity using cubes or other objects to fill different size containers and had to describe how full it was. The challenge was to predict how many objects it would take to fill the container each group had.

Crofton Roman Villa

Year 4 spent a busy afternoon at Crofton Roman Villa consolidating their knowledge of their history topic, the Romans in Britain. After finding out the history of the actual villa they were in, the children made mosaic patterns and completed brass rubbings of Roman soldiers. Some dressed up as Romans and they looked at evidence found so they could piece together what life was like in Roman times. Finally everybody had the chance to handle Roman artefacts that were 1,800 years old. A very interesting session.
